DOGDAYZ FINISHES FIRST: (At left) DogDayz, a 41-footTartan sailing yacht owned by Dan Vandenbossche ofNew Baltimore, broke through the fog under theMackinac Bridge Monday morning, July 20, to be thefirst boat to cross the finish line in the 101st ChicagoYacht Club Race to Mackinac. She crossed the finish lineat 8:54:04 a.m., 64 hours and 40 minutes after leavingChicago. Boats in the Cruising Division were affordedan earlier start and are not competing for the overallrace trophy. The race communications director, ChristieDenson, said Monday the race has been the slowest ofthe past four years. The 333-mile race has 260 boatscompeting. DogDayz is also one of 30 boats competing inthe 490-nautical-mile "Super Mac" race, which finishesat Port Huron, so she did not stop at Mackinac.
