DOGDAYZ FINISHES FIRST: (At left) DogDayz, a 41-foot Tartan sailing yacht owned by Dan Vandenbossche of New Baltimore, broke through the fog under the Mackinac Bridge Monday morning, July 20, to be the first boat to cross the finish line in the 101st Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. She crossed the finish line at 8:54:04 a.m., 64 hours and 40 minutes after leaving Chicago. Boats in the Cruising Division were afforded an earlier start and are not competing for the overall race trophy. The race communications director, Christie Denson, said Monday the race has been the slowest of the past four years. The 333-mile race has 260 boats competing. DogDayz is also one of 30 boats competing in the 490-nautical-mile "Super Mac" race, which finishes at Port Huron, so she did not stop at Mackinac.
